Germans love their beer; trash collector makes a living collecting beer bottles to recycle in Berlin, Germany. Berlin is the capital city of Germany and one of the 16 states of Germany. With a population of 3.4 million people, Berlin is the second most populous city proper and the seventh most populous urban area in the European Union, and is Germany's largest city. Located in northeastern Germany on the River Spree, it is the center of the Berlin-Brandenburg Metropolitan Region, which has about 4.5 million residents from over 180 nations. Due to its location in the European Plain, Berlin is influenced by a temperate seasonal climate. Around one third of the city's area is composed of forests, parks, gardens, rivers and lakes. First documented in the 13th century, Berlin became the capit...

1989 might have been the most important year in German history after the war. For four decades, the country had been divided into the west, the Federal Republic of Germany, and the East the communist German Democratic Republic. In the second episode, DJ Westbam leads us through a vivid music scene that went from Punk to Electronic and united a progressive youth on the dance floor. 'The Collector' is an exhibition that aims to question the true meaning of collecting art. It is an installation of an imaginary apartment set in Paris in 1968. Our Collector is a complex character with a completely unique personality. A passionate, brilliant, eccentric and humble man. Living in post war Milan and then Paris he lives and breathes art. Essentially the contents of his apartment are the result of his desperate search to feel the agony and ecstasy of life, through the visual poetry of the greatest artists of his time. Collected one by one over many years the objects in this apartment take us on a remarkable journey into his soul. Like a private journal so intimate and personal, they are a portrait of a man, searching and feeling his way in the dark. This collection represent...

This is some of the most beautiful film capturing moments of a bygone era in a great city -- all the more poignant being on the eve of the maelstrom of World War One. What is so magical about this footage, for me, is that it often catches people up close and intimately, just going about their daily routines -- a man paying his hansom cab fare, a policeman directing traffic, children riding into the courtyard of their home in a horse-drawn carriage, a tram driver and his ticket collector discussing some issue of the moment ... . I've tried to mix up the individual clips, putting social against business scenes, close against far shots, general street scenes against intimate personal moments. The music I've added as the sound track is the Adagietto from Mahler's Fifth Symphony. Is your ta...
