The Berggruen Museum (also known as the Berggruen Collection) is a collection of modern art classics in Berlin, which the collector and dealer Heinz Berggruen, in a "gesture of reconciliation", gave to his native city for a price well below its actual value. The most notable artists on display include Pablo Picasso, Alberto Giacometti, Georges Braque, Paul Klee and Henri Matisse. The Berggruen Collection is part of the National Gallery of Berlin. In the Video are depicted most of the Picasso's works from the collection

Fifty thousand refugees will have arrived in Berlin by the end of the year. That's roughly four times as many as last year. For weeks, long queues have formed in front of the initial reception center at the State Office for Health and Social Affairs; every day volunteers try to help the hundreds of newcomers seeking a temporary place to live. The hostel: What was intended as a short-term fix has degenerated into a permanent solution. Many hostel operators don't want to accommodate refugees anymore because the government vouchers are paid out too late. On the other end of the spectrum, some hostel owners have specialized in accommodating refugees, taking advantage of the government vouchers through inhuman methods - crowding numerous refugees into rooms to profit as much possible . The world is full of interesting hot spots regarding contemporary art. Since not all of us have the possibility to go and visit all of those places, we have decided to visit some of them with a film production team. The "Art Expeditions" at Independent Collectors will take us to one city at a time, where we will join local collectors on a small tour through their environment. What are the places that inspire them most? Which galleries would they recommend to visit? And: Are there any secret spots that are not covered by the usual city guides? To add another point of view, the collector is joined by a second protagonist ... In June 2009, collector Albrecht Kastein and artist Jonathan Monk took us on a tour to visit some of their favourite art locations in Berlin. Their vehicle: The bran...

Welcome to Berlin, the capital city of Germany. The first documentation of Berlin appears in the 13th century, and it has a long history of importance—it’s been the capital of the Margraviate of Brandenburg and the Kingdom of Prussia, among others. The lengthy history encompassing the city often manifests in its eclectic collection of architecture, which you should certainly include on your Berlin tour. From the towering classical lines of Charlottenburg Palace, built for the Hohenzollern family in the 17th century, to the sleek mirrored sides of the Bahn Tower, you’re bound to find plenty to look at in the city’s downtown area. Fancy a real German lager? Stop by Prater Garten for a brew—built in 1837, it’s one of the handful of buildings that has survived both World Wars. You can sit ou...

My Berlin travel guide includes 28 secrets, things to do and best places to visit which I carefully selected for this Christmas adventure in Germany. You won't believe number #23 which is a must-see attraction. The first thing you have to remember about Berlin is that it has 2 main city centers in West and East Berlin, primarily the cause of the aftermath of World War 2. I took my family to Berlin - Germany for Christmas to visit its amazing Christmas markets and local events. Berlin is definitely a gem of city but it has its flaws, it could have been the time of the year, Christmas shopping, new year's stress, we basically had a very bad experience with the local service, primarily at restaurants, they seemed to not give a damn about hospitality. Service was overall very sloppy, unpolit...
We spend a full day exploring the city of Berlin. We start off taking a walk through Tiergarten, a huge park in the centre of the city. We make our way to Brandenburg Gate, The Reichstag (Parliament) Building, and Holocaust Memorial (The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe). After that we figure out how to use the U-Bahn (train) to make our way back to the Ellington Hotel, where we’re staying. After that we make our way to East Berlin to check out the East Side Gallery, which is what remains of the Berlin Wall. At the end of our day we head to Markthalle Neun to try some currywurst. Travel video about destination Berlin in Germany. Berlin is Germany's modern capital city, a fascinating European metropolis with a dramatic history in which contemporary architecture merges with the imposing character of a centuries-old city. The Nokolai Quarter was built by the DDR government as a sort of old town, a European Disneyland for the city's 750th anniversary, a popular area with 'new' medieval buildings that display various guilds and stone statues that surround the city's oldest church. We travel to nearby Potsdam, a city of castles and gardens and with an old town that features a lively market atmosphere. When the monarchy settled there, so did their armies and with them came craftsmen, merchants and artists from many countries. The castle-like Nauener Tor leads to the Rus...
